The fourth in the Faithful and the Fallen series from John Gwynne, an epic fantasy perfect for fans of George R.It’s exciting and moving, uplifting and bittersweet and I loved every minute of it. Wrath is the perfect series ender, full of highs and lows for the characters. It makes the battle seem dynamic and exciting. I especially love how, when the battle is raging, he uses short chapters and switches between POVs. It gripped me from beginning to end with its cast of characters and an engaging plot. It was unputdownable, just like the rest of the series.

It’s hard to go into details about the story when you’re at the end of the series but Wrath is excellent. Not all of the characters survive, it’s a veritable bloodbath throughout the course of the book but Gwynne makes most of them likeable enough so that you feel something for them when they die. I like how Gwynne, until the end, allowed him the opportunity to change sides if he wanted to. It is hard to feel sorry for him, he did make his choice, after all, but he was manipulated by Calidus from the beginning. Corban makes the perfect growing leader and Nathair makes a rather sympathetic antagonist.

I’ve loved reading these characters (except Lykos, he can fuck right off). Everything comes together for an epic final battle against good and evil. Wrath is full of awesome characters and an epic plot which wraps up the story in a very satisfactory manner and sets up the Of Blood and Bone trilogy. Now the race is on to stop Asroth being brought to the Banished Lands. Nathair had taken over Drassil, Corban capture by giants and the rest of them scattered and weakened. His life hangs in the balance – and with it, the fate of the Banished Lands.Īt the end of Ruin, things weren’t looking too bright for the heroes. But can he bond with competing factions of warlike giants? Somehow he must, if he’s to counter the threat Nathair represents. His warband scattered, Corban must make new allies if he hopes to survive. Meanwhile Corban has been taken prisoner by the Jotun, warrior giants who ride their enormous bears into battle. Then Asroth and his demon-horde will finally break into the Banished Lands and become flesh. With all seven under his command, he can open a portal to the Otherworld. And together with Calidus and his ally Queen Rhin, Nathair will do anything to obtain the remaining Treasures. King Nathair has taken control of the fortress at Drassil and three of the Seven Treasures are in his possession. Summary: Events are coming to a climax in the Banished Lands, as the war reaches new heights. It’s been an utter joy from start to finish and reminded me just how fantastic it is. I’ve really enjoyed re-reading The Faithful and the Fallen series.
